The Spiritual Gifts of the Phoenix:

Healing, Transition and Change

This phoenix stands just outside the entrance to my studio, looking mildly sublime and confidently at ease as the garden in which she perches is slowly fading and decaying beneath her. 

Transitions, when they come to her, seem to never fill a phoenix with fear, doubt, anger, or sadness.  She flows between endings and beginnings with ease because they are natural to her.  It is a part of her nature to transmute herself through fire into a shining rebirth of Light and luminescent reds, golds, and oranges.

The phoenix reminds us: Change is natural. Transition is natural.

We humans have a little more difficulty with cycles being a part of our nature, too, navigating endings and beginnings.  We imagine them.  We dread them.  We love the mind game of “what if?”  We don’t cope well with losses, chaos, “turn of events”—the fiery pain of an ending scares us, grieves us, and we aren’t sure of the grace of our luminescence, our inner Light, our inner strength: will we come out of the flames ok, intact, shining and whole?

Undoubtedly, fear, anxiety, stress, anger, and grief are legitimate emotions that arise with transition and change.  They are the flames, large or small, of our transformations and life shifts.  Sometimes we can manage the heat of the flames on our own.  Other times, we need to reach out for support, healing, and guidance as we transition and journey through our challenges.

Nevertheless, we ALWAYS return to our Light Selves, our Soul Light, to the Light of Source, luminescent as the phoenix.  This infinite light is ever at one’s core.

As the days grow shorter and greyer, as Nature cycles into her season of slumber and quietly hums deep beneath the soil with the energies of potentiality, notice the phoenix in your soul: what stage is she at?  Are you welcoming her as a harbinger of change, of potential growth?  Are you shrinking from her fires?  Are you nurturing her luminescence?

Let go into the flow and rhythm of your journey in this life…
